River Cree suits more kinds of trip than most: hockey families use the two rinks, food fans come for Hell's Kitchen, and the casino is one of Alberta's biggest. Today's rooms are fine rather than new; a tall new tower is due to open in 2027.

The room to ask for
Today's hotel has 249 rooms, 11 of them suites, and calls itself a 4½-star full-service hotel. Mini fridge, microwave and Keurig in every room; room service at any hour. Room types: Luxury Family Suite, Luxury One Bedroom Suite, and Traditional rooms with one king or two queens. Expect videos on the resort's site, not written specifications.
Coming next: a $200 million expansion, under way since September 2024. STAY Magazine and GlobalData describe a tower of 18 storeys with some 230–240 rooms, over 30 being suites, with a big event space and a pool that gets two waterslides. As of June 2026, according to trade reports, the shell was done and July 2027 pencilled in.

A pool and whirlpool, and a fitness centre open 24 hours.
Arriving and parking
Edmonton International is 20 to 25 minutes by car, depending on which resort page you read. Parking is free, and valet is complimentary 09:30–03:00. A free shuttle covers the five-minute hop to West Edmonton Mall.
Where to eat and drink
Hell's Kitchen, the earliest Canadian outpost of Gordon Ramsay's brand, serves lunch and dinner with the Ramsay standards such as sticky toffee pudding and Beef Wellington. The Kitchen is the family restaurant, with buffet nights on Friday and Saturday and a weekend breakfast buffet, 07:00–14:00 on Saturday and Sunday, C$19.99. Tap 25 is the sports bar; Cree Subs stays open until 05:00 and Fatburger until 04:00.
What's on stage
The Venue's capacity swings from 500 to 2,500 with the layout. Beyond shows, the Twin Rinks draw their own crowd: a pair of NHL-size ice surfaces for youth programmes and public skates.
Downstairs: the gaming floor
1,665 slots and 46 tables, and a poker room with 14 more. The main floor is smoke-free; Embers, in its own space, permits smoking, with 14 tables and 405 slots. You need to be 18. Members of the River Cree Players Club (free) save 15% on the best available rate. Since 29 July 2024, any under-18 accompanied by an adult may go anywhere on the property except gaming areas: rinks, restaurants, community events. It opened in October 2006, at Edmonton's western edge on land of the Enoch Cree Nation.
Our take
For families, Alberta's most workable casino resort; for food, a real destination. Come for the ice and the Ramsay menu now, and return once the tower opens in 2027.

No downtown travel time is published and we found no city transit stop for the resort, so plan on a car or a taxi.

Can I eat at Hell's Kitchen in the evening?
Yes. Its page lists both lunch and dinner service; it was the first Ramsay Hell's Kitchen in Canada.
Are children allowed?
With an adult, yes, everywhere except the gaming areas; that rule dates from 29 July 2024.
When will the new tower open?
Trade reports from June 2026 put the target at July 2027.
