Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto review
Updated · facts checked
Opened in 2023 next to Woodbine Racetrack, this is the newest large casino resort in the Toronto area: 400 rooms, a 5,000-person theatre, a pool with sauna and steam room, free parking and a free shuttle from Pearson. The operator says it has the largest selection of slot machines in Canada.
Best for: Fly-in weekends, big concerts and anyone who wants the largest slot selection in the country.
Skip if: You want views beyond a racetrack and a city edge, or rooms bigger than 388 sq ft.
The newest big player
The former Casino Woodbine reopened as Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto in 2023: the casino's first phase on June 20 and The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1. It is in Etobicoke beside Woodbine Racetrack, a few minutes from Toronto Pearson, and it is built for scale — the operator says it has the largest selection of slot machines in Canada.
Rooms
All 400 rooms and suites are new. Standard rooms — Premium King, Racetrack King, Premium Two Queen and Racetrack Two Queen — are 388 square feet; "Racetrack" rooms face the track, and Destination Toronto says nearly half the hotel has that view. Accessible rooms have roll-in showers 60 inches wide and grab bars. For more space there are Corner Suites (king bed plus a queen sofa bed) and 2-Bedroom Suites that sleep six, both with a fridge and microwave. Expect blackout curtains, bathrobes, NEST bath products, a mini fridge and a coffee maker.
Rooms are reserved by guests aged 19 or older; children may stay with them but cannot enter 19+ areas. Check-in starts at 4 pm, check-out is by 11 am.
The casino
At the 2023 opening, Global News reported 4,800 slot machines and 145 table games. The high-limit area alone has 210+ slots, 15 multi-game electronic poker and blackjack terminals and over 25 live tables. The casino and hotel run 24/7. Loyalty is Great Canadian Rewards, free to join for anyone 19+.
Shows and the racetrack
The Theatre holds up to 5,000 people for concerts (1,500+ for galas), with tickets sold only through Ticketmaster. Next door, watching races at Woodbine is free on most days and parking costs nothing; the fall meet listed race days through November 29, 2026.
Dining
Copperhorn is the fine-dining steakhouse, right on the gaming floor. Casual is a gastropub with a long local craft-beer list; Chopsticks Noodlehouse and Lobster Legend Noodle Bar (Teochew and Western dishes) cover Asian food; Pizzaiolo does gourmet pizza. A Food Hall has Mary Brown's Express, Tim Hortons and Noodlebox. Northern Lights Bar (19+) is the cocktail stop; the Lobby Bar Grab & Go is open to all ages.
Pool and fitness
The hotel lists a pool and hot tub, a sauna and steam room, and a gym. The front desk may ask you to sign up for pool time when it is busy.
Getting there and parking
A free airport shuttle runs from Pearson (6 am–12 pm and 3 pm–9 pm; Terminal 1 arrivals post F3, Terminal 3 near gates B and G). Self-parking in the enclosed garage is free — 3,800 spaces — and valet costs about $20 Monday to Thursday and $30 Friday to Sunday. Up to two cats or dogs under 50 lbs are welcome for $49 a night plus a one-time $49 cleaning fee.
Good to know before you go
On July 23, 2026, Great Canadian locked out about 100 security officers represented by Unifor Local 1090, and picket lines went up at the resort. Its operating notice dated October 2, 2026 says the hotel and casino remain open 24/7, restaurant hours are unchanged and vehicles are let through the picket line at least every three minutes. Check the current status before you drive in.
Our verdict
The best pick in the Toronto area if you are flying in, going to a show, or simply want the most machines under one roof. Rooms are new and practical rather than large — book a Corner Suite if you want space.
