Casino Rama on Rama First Nation land near Orillia is in the middle of its biggest refresh in years: renovated rooms from 2025, a new ground-floor spa, and three new restaurants including Gateway's Atlas Steak and Fish. The 5,000-seat Entertainment Centre keeps pulling headliners up Highway 400.

Mid-makeover, and better for it

Casino Rama opened in July 1996 on Rama First Nation land near Orillia. In November 2024 its operator, Gateway Casinos, announced a major refurbishment with OLG and Rama First Nation: upgraded hotel rooms, an expanded spa and fitness centre, a refreshed gaming floor and new restaurants. By May 2025 room renovations were under way from the second level up and a new spa had opened on the ground floor.

Rooms

The hotel has 289 rooms. The resort hasn't yet published detailed specs for the renovated rooms, so ask which floors are finished when you book — that is the difference between an old room and a new one.

Spa and pool

The new ground-floor spa has saunas and steam rooms, and the pool stays on the third floor. The refurbishment also covers an expanded fitness centre.

The Entertainment Centre

With more than 5,000 seats, Rama's Entertainment Centre is one of the biggest casino stages in the country. Late-2026 announcements included Jesse Cook, the Righteous Brothers, Colin James and the Celtic Tenors; recent ticket prices in announcements ran roughly from $25 to $89.

The casino

Wikipedia puts the gaming floor at 192,000 square feet with about 1,800 slot machines and 50 table games; the operator doesn't publish its own counts, so treat these as approximate. CTV reported in May 2025 that the floor had a new look with upgraded slot machines. Ontario's casino age is 19.

Dining

Atlas Steak and Fish at St. Germain's opened in November 2025 — Gateway's signature steak-and-seafood brand, in its first Ontario location, keeping the name of the late Rama First Nation chief George St. Germain. MATCH Eatery and Public House opened in May 2025 just inside the main rotunda, and Chow Lucky Noodle Bar (wok dishes, soups and bowls) opened in fall 2024. There is also a Tim Hortons.

Around Rama

Orillia is about two hours north of Toronto on Highway 400. Nearby: Couchiching Beach Park with its sandy beach and gardens, the Leacock Museum National Historic Site and, in winter and summer, Hardwood Ski and Bike.

Our verdict

Rama is the concert-and-lake weekend of Ontario. Book once the room renovation reaches your floor, eat at Atlas, and catch a headliner — it's the reason most guests make the drive.
