Cascades Casino Resort review

Updated · facts checked

Gateway's Cascades casino in Langley City with the 77-room Coast hotel attached. Good steak at ATLAS, a 24-hour casino and free parking — but no pool and no theatre.

What it is

Gateway Casinos opened Cascades in Langley City in May 2005. The hotel next door is the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Centre, whose 77 rooms were refreshed in a 2018 renovation. Room types run from Coast Two Queens and Coast King to a corner Queen with sofa bed, an accessible Queen with a roll-in shower, a Hospitality Suite with a wet bar and an Executive Suite with a balcony.

Casino

More than 1,000 slots over 80,000 square feet, open 24 hours, with a poker room, bingo, blackjack and roulette. The former 420-seat Summit Theatre closed in 2018 to make room for the bingo hall, so there is no showroom.

Food

ATLAS steak + fish is Gateway's signature restaurant brand. Match Eatery & Public House has live music and DJs; The Breakfast Room serves the hotel; a Sunday brunch buffet runs weekly in the convention ballroom from 11 am. Glacier Bar is open 11 am to 2 am.

Practical details

The hotel says plainly that it has no swimming pool; the fitness centre is open 24 hours. Check-in is 3 pm, check-out noon. Parking is free. Pets are allowed for $25 a night (one) or $40 (two), with pre-approval. YVR is about an hour by car, Abbotsford airport about 30 minutes; Fort Langley and the Greater Vancouver Zoo are nearby.

Our verdict

A solid local casino with a decent small hotel. It doesn't compete with the resorts in our top ten, and doesn't try to.
